After the Holy Spirit came down upon the believers on Pentecost, things changed forever. Peter, the presumed leader of the disciples, stood up and proclaimed the Gospel to those in the area. His sermon and the results of it are recorded in Acts 2:14-41.
For this blog post, I’d like to highlight four truths that we can glean from this powerful passage of Scripture concerning our salvation that we should rejoice in:
1 – In Jesus you can do great things – The Holy Spirit’s presence in the life of every believer enables you to do great things for the Kingdom of God. He gifts you in a special way that is unique for who you are and by which you will bring glory and fame to Jesus and His kingdom. You can do great things for His kingdom if you allow the Spirit to work through you.
2- In Jesus you have nothing to fear – Contrary to popular belief, I do not believe that the most common fear that people have is the fear of public speaking. For sure, this idea of speaking in front of people frightens many. However, I think the fear of death is by far the thing that people fear most. In Jesus, however, you need not fear death. Jesus, through his resurrection and ascension, defeated death. He took the sting out of it. No longer must you dread what will happen to you after you die or fear the process of dying. You now have nothing to fear. To live is Christ; to die is gain.
Peter quoted Psalm 16 in his sermon remarking that the Old Testament King David always kept the Lord before him. When we follow Jesus and keep him out in front of us, we have nothing to fear. We can know and trust that He will lead us to where He wants us in His will, not ours.
3 – In Jesus you have a reliable king – People will let you down. Leaders will disappoint you. Family will be unreliable at times. But Jesus is always worthy to be trusted. He is a reliable King. He is a reliable leader that you can trust.
4 – In Jesus you have a certain future – Not only do you not need to fear death, you do not need to fear the future after death. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you can know for certain that for eternity you will be in place of perfect love, wisdom, and life: Heaven.
Spend this week rejoicing in these truths and promises that you have in Christ Jesus.
